Copper XLPE Cable

Copper XLPE cable is a widely used power cable designed for reliable transmission and distribution of electricity in industrial, commercial, and residential applications. It combines a copper conductor with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, offering a balance of high electrical performance, mechanical strength, and thermal stability.The core of the cable is the copper conductor, which provides excellent electrical conductivity and low resistance. Copper ensures efficient power transfer, reduced energy loss, and good short-circuit performance. Conductors may be solid or stranded; stranded construction is commonly chosen for improved flexibility and ease of installation, especially in larger cross-sectional sizes or complex routing environments.Surrounding the copper conductor is the XLPE insulation. XLPE is a thermoset material produced by cross-linking polyethylene molecules, which significantly improves its thermal and mechanical properties. This insulation typically allows continuous operation at higher temperatures compared with traditional PVC insulation, often up to 90°C in normal service, higher under emergency or short-circuit conditions. The enhanced thermal rating enables higher current-carrying capacity for a given cable size.XLPE insulation also exhibits excellent dielectric strength, providing strong resistance to electrical stress and reducing the risk of insulation breakdown. It has good resistance to moisture and many chemicals, which contributes to long service life, even in challenging environments. In addition, XLPE maintains its properties over a wide temperature range and shows good resistance to deformation under load, which is important where cables are subject to mechanical stress.Over the insulation, the cable may include screens, fillers, and bedding materials, depending on the design and voltage class. For medium- and high-voltage applications, a semiconductive conductor screen, XLPE insulation, and a semiconductive insulation screen are typically used to control the electric field and minimize partial discharges. A metallic screen or concentric conductor may be applied to provide a path for fault currents and to improve electromagnetic compatibility.The outer sheath, often made of PVC, PE, or another protective compound, shields the inner components from environmental influences such as moisture, abrasion, and ultraviolet radiation. In some designs, additional armouring with steel wire or tape is used to provide mechanical protection and to allow direct burial or installation in harsh conditions.Copper XLPE cables are available in low-, medium-, and high-voltage ranges, making them suitable for building wiring, underground distribution networks, industrial plants, renewable energy installations, and utility systems. Key advantages include long service life, low maintenance requirements, high reliability, and compatibility with a variety of installation methods, including ducts, trays, and direct burial.Because of their robust electrical, thermal, and mechanical characteristics, copper XLPE cables play a central role in modern power infrastructure, supporting safe and efficient delivery of electrical energy across diverse applications.

    This product is a single-core (1C) copper (Cu) power cable with double insulation, featuring cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheath. It is available in various cross-sectional specifications, including 70mm², 95mm², 120mm², 150mm², 185mm², 240mm², and 300mm², flexibly adapting to power transmission needs of different load levels.​ The conductor is made of high-purity electrolytic copper, precision-processed to ensure excellent conductivity. Its resistance value is much lower than industry standards, which can minimize Joule heat loss during power transmission and improve energy transfer efficiency. The inner insulation layer uses cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) material. After special cross-linking treatment, its temperature resistance level reaches 90℃, with a short-term overload tolerance temperature of up to 130℃. Additionally, it has extremely high insulation resistance and minimal dielectric loss, effectively isolating current leakage between the conductor and the outside, ensuring the safety of power transmission. The outer sheath is made of weather-resistant PVC material, which has excellent UV aging resistance, acid and alkali corrosion resistance, and mechanical impact resistance. It can work stably for a long time in complex environments such as humidity, dust, and outdoor exposure, providing comprehensive protection for the internal structure of the cable.​ The series of cables are designed with full consideration of installation convenience, featuring good flexibility that allows a certain degree of bending for laying, reducing construction difficulty.     The IEC 60502-1 compliant copper cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheathed galvanized steel tape armoured 0.6/1kV power cable (model N2xby) is a low-voltage power transmission product with high safety and strong adaptability, widely used in industrial plants, municipal engineering, underground pipe networks and other complex environments. Its rated voltage of 0.6/1kV is suitable for AC 50/60Hz low-voltage power grids, meeting the power transmission needs of medium and high-power equipment clusters and underground laying scenarios.​ In terms of specifications, the conductor is made of high-purity electrolytic copper (purity ≥99.95%) through a compact stranding process. The number of cores (N) and cross-sectional specifications (xmm²) can be flexibly combined, commonly ranging from 2×16mm² to 4×240mm². The DC resistance at 20℃ is ≤0.018Ω/km (4×240mm²) to ≤0.988Ω/km (2×16mm²), and the current-carrying capacity (when laid in air) can reach 480A (4×240mm²), ensuring low-loss and efficient power transmission. The insulation layer is made of XLPE material with a temperature resistance of 90℃, with a thickness of 2.0-4.5mm (increasing with the cross-section), a volume resistivity of ≥1×10¹⁴Ω·cm, which can withstand an ambient temperature difference of -40℃ to 90℃, an insulation eccentricity of ≤15%, and a partial discharge amount of ≤10pC.​ The structural design highlights durability: the inner layer is XLPE insulation, the middle layer is wrapped with galvanized steel tape armouring (thickness 0.5-0.8mm), and the outer layer is a PVC sheath (thickness 1.8-2.5mm). The galvanized steel tape armouring increases the cable's mechanical impact resistance by 60%, which can resist soil extrusion and stone collision during underground laying; the PVC sheath has acid and alkali resistance and UV resistance, with a flame spread rate of ≤0.5m/min, passing the IEC 60332-1 flame retardant test.​ Its characteristic applications cover multiple scenarios: in industrial plants, specifications of 4×120mm² and above can be used as main cables for production lines, withstanding equipment vibration and oil pollution; in municipal engineering, the 2×50mm² model is suitable for underground street lamp lines, and the armoured layer prevents rat and ant bites; in underground pipe corridors, the cable can adapt to humid environments, and can resist groundwater erosion when laid with pipes. Taking 4×240mm² as an example, it can support the connection between an 800kVA transformer and the workshop main distribution box, maintaining stable operation under continuous high load.​ The entire production process follows the IEC 60502-1 standard: the conductor is annealed to eliminate stress, the XLPE insulation adopts a three-layer co-extrusion process to ensure uniformity, the armoured layer uses a fully automatic wrapping machine to achieve a steel tape gap of ≤0.5mm, and the sheath extrusion temperature is controlled at 160-180℃ to avoid aging. Finished products must pass more than 20 tests such as power frequency withstand voltage (3kV/5min without breakdown) and armouring adhesion (≥15N/cm), with a complete test report attached to each batch.
