Armoured Copper

Armoured copper cable is a robust power and control cable designed to deliver reliable electrical performance while withstanding mechanical stress and harsh environments. At its core, it uses copper conductors, chosen for their excellent electrical conductivity, low resistance, and long-term stability. These conductors may be solid or stranded, and are typically insulated with materials such as PVC, XLPE, or other thermoplastic or thermoset compounds that provide dielectric strength and thermal resistance.Around the insulated cores, one or more layers of armour are applied to protect the cable from impact, crushing, and abrasion. The armour can be made of steel wire, steel tape, or sometimes aluminum, depending on weight and corrosion considerations. In the case of armoured copper cable, the term generally emphasizes that the current-carrying conductors themselves are copper, while the mechanical protection is provided by metallic armour. This construction allows the cable to be buried directly in the ground, installed in ducts, or laid in areas where it may be exposed to physical damage. The armouring not only increases mechanical strength but also helps maintain cable integrity under conditions of vibration, rodent attack, or accidental contact with tools and machinery. For certain designs, the armour can serve as a protective earth or fault return path, contributing to system safety and rapid fault clearance. Additional layers, such as inner and outer sheaths, often made from PVC, polyethylene, or low-smoke halogen-free materials, provide environmental protection against moisture, chemicals, and UV radiation.Armoured copper cables are widely used in industrial plants, construction sites, underground distribution networks, and infrastructure projects. They are common in fixed installations for power distribution in commercial buildings, substations, and renewable energy systems, as well as for feeding motors, pumps, and control equipment. Their ability to handle medium to high current loads, combined with the reliability of copper, makes them suitable for both low-voltage and certain medium-voltage applications, depending on design and insulation type.In addition to power transmission, some armoured copper cables include control or instrumentation cores for signaling and monitoring. These multi-core configurations can carry both power and control signals in a single protected assembly, simplifying installation and reducing the need for separate conduits. Proper selection involves considering conductor size, voltage rating, insulation material, armour type, environmental conditions, and installation method, all in line with relevant national and international standards.Overall, armoured copper cable provides a durable, safe, and efficient solution where electrical performance must be combined with strong mechanical protection and long service life.

The cable incorporates copper conductors for efficient conductivity, XLPE insulation for enhanced thermal and electrical performance, and a PVC outer sheath for durability and flexibility. Additionally, the cable is armoured for mechanical protection and waterproof to ensure reliable operation in harsh or wet environments. These characteristics make it suitable for industrial, underground, and outdoor installations where robust and moisture-resistant power distribution is required. The combination of copper, XLPE, armour, and PVC ensures long-term reliability, safety, and resistance to environmental stressors.

Zc-Yjv22, Zr-Yjv22, and Wdzn-Yjy22 are all high-quality armoured copper core cables, with copper conductors as the core, using XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) as the insulation layer, combined with different protective structures (Sta steel tape armouring, PVC sheath or low-smoke halogen-free sheath). They are widely applicable to power transmission scenarios with high requirements for safety and weather resistance. The copper conductors of the three types of cables all have a purity of over 99.9% and a conductivity of ≥58MS/m, ensuring low transmission loss and adapting to medium and high-voltage power systems. After warm water cross-linking treatment, the insulation layer has a temperature resistance range extended to -40℃ to 90℃, with an insulation resistance of ≥1000MΩ·km and a breakdown field strength of ≥20kV/mm, which can resist the impact of harsh environments such as humidity and high temperature. The steel tape armouring layer (Sta) adopts a hot-dip galvanizing process, with a thickness of ≥0.3mm and a compressive strength of ≥200MPa, effectively improving the cable's resistance to mechanical impact and rolling, and is suitable for complex laying environments such as direct burial and pipe penetration. In terms of protective characteristics, the three types of cables have their own focuses: Zc-Yjv22 has flame-retardant properties, passing the GB/T 18380 bundle combustion test, with a flame spread length of ≤1.5m and no drips igniting filter paper, suitable for crowded places such as shopping malls and office buildings; Zr-Yjv22 enhances flame-retardant performance, with a flame-retardant grade of Class C, which can delay the spread of fire in the early stage of a fire and gain time for emergency power supply, mostly used in key facilities such as hospitals and data centers; Wdzn-Yjy22 uses a low-smoke halogen-free sheath, with a smoke density of ≤50% when burning and a halogen acid gas release of ≤0.5mg/g, complying with the GB/T 19666 standard, suitable for enclosed spaces such as subways and tunnels, reducing the risk of suffocation and corrosion during fires. Structurally, all three are multi-core designs (common specifications such as 4×120+1×70mm², 4×240+1×120mm², etc.), and the current-carrying capacity increases with the specification. The 4×240mm² model has a current-carrying capacity of 400-500A, meeting the power supply needs of large industrial equipment and urban power grid main lines. During laying, the steel tape armouring allows a minimum bending radius of 12 times the cable outer diameter, adapting to installation in narrow spaces. In practical applications, Zc-Yjv22 is often used in the distribution main lines of commercial complexes, Zr-Yjv22 ensures uninterrupted power supply in hospital ICU wards, and Wdzn-Yjy22 has become the main cable in subway tunnel sections. With their excellent conductivity, mechanical strength and protective properties, the three provide stable and reliable power transmission support for various high-demand scenarios.
